FAQs
Q. Do I have to read the book to come to book group?
A. No! But, know that we’ll be discussing the book in addition to visiting!
--
Q. Do I have to come every month? Is it okay if I’m late?
A. No! Life happens, come when you can as soon as you can!
--
Q. Do I have to buy the book we’re reading?
A. No! The books selected should be easily accessible. The hostess can check out book group collections from the library. Another option is to find a popular book that has multiple copies (4+) at the library (http://www.slcolibrary.org/ rc/rcbc/htm/bookSets.htm), and coordinate sharing the books between the group as individuals finish reading a copy. This is as simple as posting that you’re done reading the book to the book group email list so the first person to your house can have your copy! Other times, you may find that members of the group may know someone who owns the book. When selecting a book keep in mind that more people will read your book if you help members of the group have easy access to a copy at no expense.

Q. What types of books are allowed?
A. Please select books that adhere to Christian standards. Feel free to pick any book you wish that is uplifting and clean. Part of the fun of belonging to a book group is participating in reading books you may not usually choose on your own. Books should be selected using your best judgement. If you’re hosting, and unsure of the standards in a book you want to select, please read it before the month you’re hosting to be sure it's clean.

Q. I’m not sure what book to pick?
A. Cheree Daley has a list from a group she belonged to that has the books they’ve read for the last 10 years. Click here to view the book idea list.

Q. Do I have to host a book group?
A. No. Ideally, we’d prefer everyone to take a turn hosting the group at their home. This gives us an opportunity to get to know one another better. If you’d like to host, but prefer not to use your home, just ask! Many book group members would love to help out and offer their home if you’d still like to do the rest of the hostess duties.

Q. What are my responsibilities as a hostess?
A. Hosting includes:
- Pick the book
- The month before you host, present your book at book group. This may include sharing a teaser or brief author biography. Explain availability of the book (i.e., if books are on hold at the library, if you own multiple copies, etc.).
- When your month arrives, email members the information about your book for members who were unable to attend the previous book group and hear about it there.
- One week before your book group, send a reminder email to members of the group including where and when we'll be having book group.
- Offer your home for the meeting the month you host and provide a snack if desired.
- Lead out the book group discussion. This can include emailing questions about the book to the members in advance, introduce the author with a brief bio, etc.
